Blackberry Bold takes on iPhone?

Everyone is talking about the new Blackberry Bold. Will it replace Apples iPhone dominate market strangle hold in the digital cell phone market place? Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) on Monday unveiled the BlackBerry Bold 9000, a new high-end smartphone the mobile device maker is billing as elegant and dramatic, that runs on third-generation (3G) networks.
The Blackberry Bold has some potential to do so. It’s the first phone EVER to beat Apple in something. They beat Apples iPhone to the 3G punch. Also last week, smartphone rival HTC unveiled the Touch Diamond, a touch-screen device similar to the iPhone which also runs on 3G networks. Some considerable comp is finally arising for the good folks over at Apple or not. Researchers are predicting that Apples iPhone will have 3G networks as soon as the summer time.
Apple has yet to annouce taking the iPhone into the third generation plane. The “Bold” Blackberry device marks the first BlackBerry to support tri-band HSDPA 3G high-speed networks worldwide and integrates GPS and Wi-Fi as well with recent multimedia capabilities.
In a statement, RIM Co-CEO and president Mike Lazaridis said “the new BlackBerry Bold represents a tremendous step forward in business-grade smartphones and lives up to its name with incredible speed, power and functionality all wrapped in a beautiful and confident design.”
While they haven’t revealed pricing, RIM said the BlackBerry Bold will be available from most major wireless carriers come hot scorching summer time (Well at least here in Boston, Ma).
Do you like specs? Heres some of the lastest features:
1. 624 MHz mobile processor to speed up email attachment downloading and support streaming video and faster Web browsing
2. The new Blackberry Bold also offers 128 MB of flash memory and 1 GB on-board storage memory. For additional storage, the device features a microSD/SDHC memory card slot accessible from a side door.
3. Also comes with the usual standards with BlackBerry applications like phone, email, messaging, organizer and browser and works with an array of third-party mobile business and lifestyle applications for your daily needs (And habits!).
4. You ready for the big time feature? the bold has been designed to enable users to talk on the phone while also sending and receiving email or accessing the Web. That one is huge in my eyes. You know how your talking to someone on the phone but your IM convo with someone else who may be more interesting then your current convo or your caught up, browsing some site for a product you may want to buy. There you go!
5. You can also download many commonly used files, such as Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint and edit them on the handset using a pre-loaded DataViz Documents to Go suite.
Mysterygrimms Thoughts:
Man I wish I wasn’t so broke sometimes. The Blackberry is shaping up to being something REAL serious. Right now I only have a house phone and an old Motorola cellphone from T-Mobile (From 2007). Thats old!
