Posted by Mysterygrimms | Under Tech News Monday May 12, 2008
Everyone is talking about the new Blackberry Bold. Will it replace Apples iPhone dominate market strangle hold in the digital cell phone market place? Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) on Monday unveiled the BlackBerry Bold 9000, a new high-end smartphone the mobile device maker is billing as elegant and dramatic, that runs on third-generation (3G) networks.
The Blackberry Bold has some potential to do so. It’s the first phone EVER to beat Apple in something. They beat Apples iPhone to the 3G punch. Also last week, smartphone rival HTC unveiled the Touch Diamond, a touch-screen device similar to the iPhone which also runs on 3G networks. Some considerable comp is finally arising for the good folks over at Apple or not. Researchers are predicting that Apples iPhone will have 3G networks as soon as the summer time.
Apple has yet to annouce taking the iPhone into the third generation plane. The “Bold” Blackberry device marks the first BlackBerry to support tri-band HSDPA 3G high-speed networks worldwide and integrates GPS and Wi-Fi as well with recent multimedia capabilities.
In a statement, RIM Co-CEO and president Mike Lazaridis said “the new BlackBerry Bold represents a tremendous step forward in business-grade smartphones and lives up to its name with incredible speed, power and functionality all wrapped in a beautiful and confident design.”
While they haven’t revealed pricing, RIM said the BlackBerry Bold will be available from most major wireless carriers come hot scorching summer time (Well at least here in Boston, Ma).
Do you like specs? Heres some of the lastest features:
1. 624 MHz mobile processor to speed up email attachment downloading and support streaming video and faster Web browsing
2. The new Blackberry Bold also offers 128 MB of flash memory and 1 GB on-board storage memory. For additional storage, the device features a microSD/SDHC memory card slot accessible from a side door.
3. Also comes with the usual standards with BlackBerry applications like phone, email, messaging, organizer and browser and works with an array of third-party mobile business and lifestyle applications for your daily needs (And habits!).
4. You ready for the big time feature? the bold has been designed to enable users to talk on the phone while also sending and receiving email or accessing the Web. That one is huge in my eyes. You know how your talking to someone on the phone but your IM convo with someone else who may be more interesting then your current convo or your caught up, browsing some site for a product you may want to buy. There you go!
5. You can also download many commonly used files, such as Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint and edit them on the handset using a pre-loaded DataViz Documents to Go suite.
Mysterygrimms Thoughts:
Man I wish I wasn’t so broke sometimes. The Blackberry is shaping up to being something REAL serious. Right now I only have a house phone and an old Motorola cellphone from T-Mobile (From 2007). Thats old!
Svchost.exe 100% CPU Usage problem
Posted by Mysterygrimms | Under Tech News Sunday May 11, 2008Just when I thought everything was going fine with my computer I stumbled across this very irritating problem. I noticed after my computer faithfully shutdown by itself on me (I hate power outages) and started back up my computer that it was running extremely slow. At a snails pace to be exact.
I did the usually routine in Windows XP SP2 (right click the mouse and select task manager) and noticed one of the processes (svchost.exe) was taking up 99% of my cpu usage and was the cause for why my computer took about 30 minutes to load everything up.
Well after killing the svchost process, I found out that now I don’t have any sound, my taskbar is black and deformed looking and my windowblinds theme wasn’t working. Svchost actually is responsible for various services that runs in the background at all times to make sure that you have sound, graphics, and other little cool things running in your GUI (Windows XP Graphical User Interface).
After 2 hours of doing the usual (spyware, anti-virus, and keylogger scans) I came upon two different sites with two separate solution which both work. Read the information below as it is integral to circumvent this little annoying hindrance. After doing the usual yahoo and google searching i came upon two sites with a resolution the svchost problem.
Site 1
Go here
http://www.technibble.com/how-to-fix-svchost-using-100-cpu-memory-leak
Pay good attention to post #27(That was the fix to my problem)
Deleting the Value “NetworkService = DnsCache” in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WinNT\CurrentVersion\SvcHost
did the trick for me on a lot of systems.
Thanks goes out to Charles Rippert
Site 2 (I actually copy and pasted the solution below for added benefit.)
http://lostjohns.blogspot.com/2007/04/cpu-usage-100-and-svchostexe.html
Here is the solution or the fix to a problem that was created by corrupt files downloaded from Microsoft’s Automatic updates that caused my CPU usage to peg out via the svchost.exe.
“1) turn off automatic updates, reboot, then manually go to windows
updates and install the updates, turn on automatic updates, reboot.
or (as in my case)
2) Perform these steps:
1. Click Start->Run, type “services.msc” (without quotation marks) in the
open box and click OK.
2. Double click the service “Automatic Updates”.
3. Click on the Log On tab, please ensure the option “Local System account”
is selected and the option “Allow service to interact with desktop” is
unchecked.
4. Check if this service has been enabled on the listed Hardware Profile. If
not, please click the Enable button to enable it.
5. Click on the tab “General “; make sure the “Startup Type” is “Automatic”.
Then please click the button “Start” under “Service Status” to start the
service.
6. Repeat the above steps with the other service: Background Intelligent
Transfer Service (BITS)
Step 4: Re-register Windows Update components and Clear the corrupted
Windows Update temp folder
1. Click on Start and then click Run,
2. In the open field type “REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL” (without quotation marks) and
press Enter.
3. When you receive the “DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded” message,
click OK.
4. Please repeat these steps for each of the following commands:
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL
After the above steps are finished. Sicne temporary folder of Windows Update
may be corrupted. We can refer to the following steps to rename this folder
that
1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following
command in the opened window.
net stop WuAuServ
(note, you might need to reboot before the net stop command will work)
2. Click Start, Run, type: %windir% and press Enter.
3. In the opened folder, rename the folder SoftwareDistribution to SDold.
4. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following
command in the opened window.
net start WuAuServ “
Thank you goes out the Bishop for posting the above solution via help also from a poster on another site forum named pati (Thank you both)
Microsoft withdraws offer for Yahoo
Posted by Mysterygrimms | Under Tech News Sunday May 4, 2008SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) walked away from its bid to buy Yahoo Inc (YHOO.O) on Saturday after the Internet company turned down its offer to raise the price by $5 billion to $47.5 billion.
Microsoft’s offer was for $33 a share but Yahoo would not lower its demand below $37, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said. The software company initially bid $31 per share for Yahoo more than three months ago.

Firefox High Memory Usage
Posted by Mysterygrimms | Under Tech News Monday Mar 24, 2008I’m perplexed right now. Every time I open up Firefox 2.0.0.12 my memory usage gets to around 140MB’s and sometimes higher when I view the memory usage in task manager, this is only after about 20 minutes of browsing. I use Firefox for everything except Myspace.com and Allhiphop.com for browsing (IE7 Browser) works better for those sites.
I also tend to leave Firefox open for long periods of time. Sometimes even a day or two. I don’t know I been Googling and Yahoo Searching solutions for my current dilemma. I’ll update you all(Myself really) when I have a solution.
Firefox 3 is currently in the beta phase of things. Lets hope they solve this memory usuage problem in version 3.
McCartney reportedly inks deal with Apple
Posted by Mysterygrimms | Under Entertainment News, Tech News Monday Mar 10, 2008Here’s some interesting Beatles news for Beatles fans. I was scurrying the interWebz and felt like blogging about it. I think their music is pretty good, well…was in a sense. I also think Paul McCartney made a very wise decision to ink this deal with Apple. Now you’ll be able to hear classic Beatles Tunes on iTunes. They have a helluva back catalogue. Original article below.
McCartney reportedly inks deal with Apple: “McCartney reportedly inks deal with Apple
By Jeff Smykil | Published: March 09, 2008 - 07:43PM CT
Multiple UK news outlets are reporting today that Sir Paul McCartney has reached a deal with Apple to offer the Beatles catalog on the iTunes Store. The deal, reportedly worth $400 million, comes after months and months of speculation and relentless torrents of rumors. As best as we can tell, this is the real deal, and will lead to the most popular band of all time finally finding its way onto an online marketplace.
While McCartney will be keeping much of the money, several other parties stand to benefit from the deal. It is being reported that portions of the sum will be going to families of the deceased members of the Beatles, Ringo Starr, Sony, EMI, and the former owner of the catalog, Michael Jackson.
As of today there is no time frame as to when the catalog will appear online, but it seems to just be a matter of time. McCartney himself even said in November that the catalog would be making its way onto the the store some time in 2008 While we have heard this sort of thing time and time again, this might just be the real deal. Prepare yourself—Beatlemania is coming to iTunes.”
