GTAIV Voice Actors Complain About Losing Out On Millions

Wednesday May 28, 2008

Apparently the lead voice actor, Michael Hollick, behind the GTAIV character Niko is not happy to learn that he has lost out on possible millions of dollars according to The New York Times. GTAIV grossed $600 Million dollars in two weeks setting a Guinness world record, now known as being the highest selling and grossing video game of all time within two weeks. Well the main voice actor for the character Niko Bellic complained that it actually wasn’t Rock Star Games or Take-Two to blame, but the Screen Actors Guild fault. They only get paid union scale which amounts to ($730 a day) for the voice actor.

As it turns out, the Screen Actors Guild contract doesn’t make provisions for electronic media, including videogames. Negotiations will commence this summer to determine how the guild will deal with electronic media in future dealings, but of course any contract revisions won’t be applied retroactively, so Hollick’s GTA4 pay won’t be increased.

gtaspan "Obviously, I’m incredibly thankful to Rockstar for the opportunity to be in this game when I was just a nobody, an unknown quantity," said Hollick. "But it’s tough, when you see Grand Theft Auto IV out there as the biggest thing going right now, when they’re making hundreds of millions of dollars, and we don’t see any of it." But he goes on: "I don’t blame Rockstar. I blame our union for not having the agreements in place to protect the creative people who drive the sales of these games. Yes, the technology is important, but it’s the human performances within them that people really connect to, and I hope actors will get more respect for the work they do within those technologies."

"The first GTA4 trailer generated something like 40 million hits online, and that’s my voice all over it, and I get nothing. If that were a radio spot, I would have," he said. "Same thing for the TV ads. I recorded those lines for the game, but now they’re all over television. It’s another gray area."

All together he got around $100k for his voice performance. That hurts anyway’s you can read the story in it’s entirety right here!

GTA IV Makes & Breaks Guinness World Record

Wednesday May 14, 2008

GTAIV2446_embed Rock Star Games’ controversial Grand Theft Auto IV video game has officially made the Guinness World Records list, after an Huge first week sales figure.

Consumers snatched up 3.6 million units of GTA IV within the first 24 hours of purchase, helping the video game earn $310 million dollars on its first day of release.

The figures make GTA IV the most profitable entertainment release of all time, surpassing records set by other video game, film and book first day releases.

The sales achievement has earned GTA IV the record for Highest Grossing Video Game of all time and within a 24 Hours time frame. It’s also the Highest Revenue Generated Product in 24 Hours history.

According to the record-tracking group, Bungie and Microsoft’s Halo 3 previously held the fastest-selling video game record with $170 million in its previous first 24 hours. Spider-Man 3’s smash box-office debut of $60 million last May held the theatrical movie title, whereas the final book in J.K. Rowling’s kids tale fantasy epic, Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows, conjured up $220 million in day-one sales.

Mysterygrimms Thoughts: I’m still extra peeved that I don’t own a PS3 or Xbox 360 to play GTA IV yet… sigh……Whatever.
